Why size shows up in the number
Every junk offer starts with what the vehicle is made of. A midsize SUV or a minivan simply has more of it than a compact car: longer body, bigger frame, more steel in the doors. That's the plain reason a family vehicle often gets a bigger number, and it's the same logic we walk through in how an instant junk car offer is worked out.
Then the other details take over. A minivan model that's still common has parts people want: sliding door motors, seats, tail lights. A rare one leans more on its weight. And any vehicle that runs, with its engine, transmission and catalytic converter still on it, beats the same vehicle stripped.
What to tell us about an SUV or minivan
The form asks for the four details that set a first number. On the call we'll ask a few more that matter for bigger vehicles:
- Does it start and drive?
- Is it complete: engine, transmission, catalytic converter, all four wheels?
- Is it all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive? (It changes which parts have buyers.)
- Where is it parked, and is there room for a tow truck to line up behind or in front of it?
That last one matters more than people think. A long minivan in a tight garage off a North Side alley is a different job from one on the street. Tell us, and the driver plans for it.
Before pickup: the family-vehicle checklist
Minivans collect things. Before the truck arrives:
- Child car seats out. They're yours, not part of the vehicle.
- Under and behind the third row. Toys, umbrellas, the lost library book.
- Sliding door pockets and seatback pockets.
- Garage door opener, toll transponder and parking permits off the visor and windshield.
- The title, or the papers we agreed on the call if there's no title, ready to hand over.
Leave the factory seats in. Removing them doesn't help the offer, and a vehicle that isn't as described is the main reason a number changes at pickup.
Getting paid
When the truck arrives, the driver checks the vehicle matches what you told us, you sign it over, and you're paid at pickup. Towing is free.
