Edgewater at a glance
Edgewater is bounded by Devon Avenue on the north, Foster Avenue on the south, Ravenswood Avenue on the west and the lake on the east. It became Chicago's newest official community area in 1980, and it splits neatly in two along the Red Line tracks.
East of the tracks is Edgewater Beach: high-rise apartments and condos, with the pink Edgewater Beach Apartments marking the north end of Lake Shore Drive, which finishes at Hollywood Avenue. West of the tracks are Andersonville and Edgewater Glen, mostly single-family homes. Andersonville's shopping strip runs along Clark Street from Ainslie to Rosehill Drive, with the Swedish American Museum on it. The Red Line stops at Berwyn, Bryn Mawr and Thorndale.
Pickup notes for Edgewater
The side of the tracks decides what we need to know.
East of the tracks (high-rises and condos).
- The building's posted garage height limit, if there is one.
- Which level the car is on, and whether it can be driven or pushed to the exit.
- Whether a doorman, manager or fob is needed to let the driver in.
West of the tracks (Andersonville, Edgewater Glen).
- Whether the car is on the street or in a garage off the alley.
- Whether the alley is clear and the garage door opens fully.
If your block is a permit zone, that doesn't get in the way of a short pickup.

How the number is worked out
An instant junk offer starts from the car's metal, adds parts that still sell, and adjusts for condition and paperwork. We explain the whole calculation in how an instant junk car offer is worked out, in plain terms and without made-up averages.
