Uptown at a glance
Uptown runs from Foster Avenue in the north to Montrose Avenue and Irving Park Road in the south, with the lake on the east and Ravenswood Avenue and Clark Street on the west. Broadway is its commercial spine. Within half a block of Lawrence and Broadway you'll find the Aragon Ballroom, the Riviera Theater, the Uptown Theatre and the Green Mill, which is why that corner fills up on show nights.
Truman College, Graceland Cemetery and Montrose Beach are all inside Uptown. The Red Line stops at Wilson (the old terminal at Wilson and Broadway) and Argyle, and Buena Park is reached from the Sheridan stop.
Pickup notes for Uptown
- Near Lawrence and Broadway. Pick a daytime slot if you can, and give us the side street rather than the corner.
- Courtyard and mid-rise buildings. Many cars sit in a back lot reached from the alley. Tell us whether the truck can pull in, and whether a gate or a neighbour's car is in the way.
- Street parking near the lake. Tell us the block and whether the car rolls. If your block is a permit zone, that's no obstacle for a short pickup.
A car that won't start is fine. Say so on the call, along with anything like flat tyres or a locked steering wheel, and the driver comes ready.
Hail, storms and street-parked cars
Cars parked on the street near the lake take the weather full on. If a storm left yours with dents, cracked glass or a sunroof that leaks, we still make an offer. The trick is describing it plainly, which we cover in how to sell a hail-damaged car in Chicago.
Why an offer could change when the truck arrives
It shouldn't, if the car matches what you told us. The driver checks the title against your ID, the VIN against the title, and that the car is complete. Our guide on why a junk car offer can change at pickup walks through every check so there are no surprises on the day.
